Visiting Practitioners Program

Share your expertise with tomorrow’s professionals today!

The visiting practitioners program provides students with an opportunity to interact with an expert in their field of interest — you! Through this program, we bring local professionals and business leaders to Florida Community College classes as guest speakers and activity leaders. The program will match you with college classes in your area of expertise, where you’ll work with faculty to design a presentation that educates and involves the students, such as a group discussion or class project.

As a visiting practitioner, you’ll share your experience and knowledge with our college students, motivating them and keeping them up-to-date on their future career field. This interaction and mentorship prepares our students for success in the 21st century workplace.

What’s in it for YOU?

As a visiting practitioner, you’ll meet students who are interested in your field — this is your chance to ensure that potential employees have the skills and knowledge you think is necessary for your business. you’ll also gain classroom experience that could help prepare you for teaching or training opportunities in your field. Most importantly, you will be performing a vital community service, one that is valued by many employers and professional associations.

The next step is up to you —come join us. Professionals can learn more about the program below. For more information, contact the CDC coordinator at your campus of choice:

The Benefit to Instructors

Many of our professors have expressed interest in having local professionals come to their classes, but weren't really sure where to begin. The Visiting Practitioner Program makes this arrangement easier and less time-consuming for both you and the instructors.

Instructors, be sure to check out the “Instructor Information” page for more information on how this program can benefit your students.

How to Become a Visiting Practitioner

  1. Print out and complete our visiting practitioners application (requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader).
  2. Submit the application, along with a current resume.

What Happens Next?

After you have volunteered to be a visiting practitioner, your information will be entered into the program database by College staff. Instructors will contact you by telephone when the need arises for a professional in your area of expertise . During the phone conversation you can expect to discuss issues such as background on the class and the agenda for your visit. The instructor will also provide you with the class schedule and location information. This is your chance to ask questions and gain insight into the class, so you can make the most of the visit for both you and the students.

The opportunity for visiting practitioners varies from semester to semester. Don't be discouraged if there are periods of time between requests for your expertise. Your information will remain in the program's database until you request that it be removed from active status.
