Field Experience — For Current Education Students
Fall and Spring Education Students
Part of teacher training is field experience, working and observing in an actual classroom. Your field experience training will take place in the K-12 public school system.
General Information for All Field Experience Students
All students in EDF 1005 and EDG 2701 must participate in 18 contact
hours of field experience for each course. This placement may be in a public or private school. For students in EDG 2701, volunteer work in
an agency that works with people of a variety of ages is also acceptable. For placement in a public school, students are
required to be fingerprinted through the school board of the county where they wish to be placed. Please see the specific
information about each countys fingerprinting process below. Students may not start field experience before beginning their education class without the instructor’s permission.
All students must complete
the online Field Experience
Registration. The link to this form is found on the students class
schedule in Artemis.
Information by County
Students must contact their instructor for current information on what days are available for
fingerprinting for Florida Community College students, then e-mail the Education Field Facilitator with
your availability on those days to schedule an appointment. The facilitator will then select an appointment time for you and
notify you of the specific appointment time and date. Please do not miss your appointment. If an emergency occurs and
you need to change your appointment, please contact the Education Field Facilitator immediately. Only students with an appointment and proper
payment will be fingerprinted. Students should go for their scheduled appointment to: Duval County Public Schools, 1701 Prudential Dr., Jacksonville, Florida 32207-8182
Be sure to pay the $57.25 fee before you go to your appointment. There are three ways to pay:
- Pay online by credit card (Visa or MasterCard only) at Florida Department of
Education Fingerprinting (24 hours a day). Credit card payment
is highly recommended and guarantees a better chance that your appointment will happen on time.
- Pay by phone by calling 1.877.357.7456 (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.).
- Pay by taking a money order or cashiers check addressed to “Fingerprinting Services, LLC” to your appointment. Personal
checks will not be accepted. The money order or cashiers check must be taken to the fingerprinting appointment and
processed at the security desk before you are printed. This method will slow down the process, so please make
sure you allow extra time.
For additional information visit the Duval County
School District Web site.
As soon as Duval County lets us know that you are cleared from your background check, you will be placed in a
school by the field experience facilitator. The field experience facilitator will notify your instructor of your placement
as soon as you are cleared by the fingerprinting process. Please direct all questions to your instructor. Always include
your full name, course ID (EDF 1005 or EDG 2701), reference number and instructors name. If you choose to e-mail your instructor, please use your FCCJ student e-mail account.
If you would like placement in an accredited private school, you must contact that school
directly and arrange for placement yourself. Please let your instructor know the following information as soon as possible:
- School name, address and county
- Grade level and subject area in which you will be conducting your field experience hours
- Name and contact number of the school administrator
- Name and address of the cooperating teacher with whom you will be working
To set up a fingerprinting appointment for St. Johns County Public Schools, visit the School Board Web site at http://www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/depts/risk/scheduling.
Fingerprinting/background check appointments are conducted on Tuesdays. Students will not receive a phone call to confirm their appointment.
Pay $57.25 at www.flprints.com with Visa or MasterCard. Print out the payment receipt and bring it, along with a picture ID, to your scheduled appointment. For additional information, visit the St. Johns County School District Web site.
Students should go for their scheduled appointment to: St. Johns School Board, 40 Orange St., St. Augustine, FL 32084.
Students should place themselves after being notified by the field experience facilitator that they have been cleared from fingerprinting. There are no field placements in St. Johns County in the summer. You may contact a teacher directly if you know someone you would like
to work with or call the vice principal of the school that most interests you and ask for help getting placed in a class of
your preferred grade level and subject area. If you would like a copy of school phone numbers for St. Johns Schools please
notify your instructor. When you have a teacher/placement, please let your instructor know the following information
