Leading High Performance Teams

Presenter: Jenny Carney

Program Description: “The leader finds the dream and then the people. The people find the leader and then the dream.”

This view of a successful team leader by John Maxwell in “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” lies at the center of the mind set of leaders who know how to lead high performance teams. Many of the skills that play into leadership are intangible. The intangible skills that leaders use to attract, influence, motivate and build high performance teams include developing a vision, listening, observing, communicating and more. This program lasts approximately eight hours.

Course Objectives and Measurable Outcomes:

Along with identifying and practicing the intangible skills, participants will explore a variety of attributes that highly successful leaders embody. Participants will learn:

  • Leaders find a way for the team to win and leaders are learners.
  • When the pressure is on, great leaders are at their best; whatever is inside them comes to the surface.
  • Leadership develops daily, not in a day.
  • Knowing when to lead is as important as what to do and where to go.
  • Leadership is influence.

Using “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” by John Maxwell as the guide, each participant will have the opportunity to:

  • Identify their own strengths and weaknesses as a leader. This personal inventory is then to be used to help the participant focus on the skill set they want to develop to improve their ability to lead highly productive teams.
  • Analyze and develop possible solutions for specific leadership challenges. Each participant will leave with several tools to use with their teams.

Practical Application Exercises:

  • Role play
  • Real world scenarios
  • Group project work using case studies

Student Workshop Evaluation/Assessment of Learning: An evaluation will be given to all participants regarding the training outcomes and specifically how they will apply them.
