Women’s Tennis

Welcome to the 2008–09 edition of the FCCJ Stars Tennis program.

The stars returned to the National Championship Tournament in Tuscon, Ariz., to end the 2007–08 season and finished the year ranked eighth nationally.

The 2008 season was another good one, finishing with a 14 win and seven loss record. After placing second in the State Tournament behind Hillsborough Community College, the Stars flew to Arizona and competed with 35 other junior colleges from all over the nation and came up with a terrific finish for a #8 final ranking. We had a good nucleus coming back from the previous year and the new freshmen made a huge impact up and down the lineup. Glebova, McAtee, Reyes, Farmer and Armstrong did super jobs and provided the helpful punch along with sophomores Krista Bastien, Ashley Lowery and Gina Lindsay to put themselves back in Nationals where the Red, Blue and White of FCCJ belongs. To be sure, last year’s sophomores who have graduated and moved on to other schools will be sorely missed. See the Coach’s Corner for plans of last year’s graduates.

Four excellent players are coming back with the addition of five or six more terrific young students who are fine players — we hope they will put us back at the National Tournament at the end of the coming season. This new signing class for 2009 will probably rival last year’s class for being a great one. This year’s line–up looks to be a real battle to see who wins the top six positions.

Again, we have to avoid injuries and grade problems if we expect to move up in the national ranks and of course we do. We want to have some fun, graduate our players, learn some new tennis and make nationals!

Photos for the 2008–09 team will be up shortly.
